On behalf of American Model Yachting Association and South Bay Model Yacht Club, it is an honor and a great pleasure to welcome you to the USA IOM World Championship Regatta at Foster City’s beautiful Central Lake in northern California.
Foster City is located on a peninsula 38 km (23 mi) south of downtown San Francisco. The sailing venue is served by three International airports: San Francisco International Airport (SFO) 15.6 km (9.7 mi) north; San Jose International Airport (SJC) 42.1 km (26.2 mi) south; and Oakland International Airport (OAK) 38.1 km (23.7 mi) across the San Mateo Bay Bridge on the east side of San Francisco Bay.
Central Lake is part of the Foster City Lagoon system, a flood control project. The water is brackish and kept at a consistent depth by adding saltwater from San Francisco Bay during the dry summer months.
The lake ranges in depth from 1.5 to 3 meters. No current or tidal conditions exist. A blue dye is added to the water to control algae and eliminate weed growth. The primary race course is located at the windward end of the lake; some chop may become apparent in the higher wind range.
We are looking forward to your participation in a week of top-notch competition and camaraderie.
All the best,
